Sometimes, when your sweet-tooth beckons, a piece of fruit just won’t do the trick! When this is the case, it’s best to take a small piece of the treat you’re craving and eat slowly, savoring every bite. It’s even better when you can make your own, rather than choosing store-bought desserts, since you control each ingredient that goes in, and can make some healthier swaps.
Brown rice crispy treats are delicacies that are not laden with gluten (a huge benefit for those of us who are intolerant). Here’s a recipe I had the pleasure of trying out and recommend making a batch to share with others. When eaten mindfully, one small square is a perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee or tea:
Ingredients:
1 10-ounce box brown crisped rice cereal (I had to venture to a local health-food store to find these.)
¾ cup of honey or maple syrup
¾ cup peanut butter (almond butter or non-nut butter–I used almond butter, as I love it and it’s what I had on hand)
½ cup carob chips
